Your Questions About Travelling from Cape Town to Kruger
Which programme suits me best: 8 or 10 days?
The 8-day trip combines three nights in Cape Town, three safaris in Kruger and the Panorama Route. It is a good option if you want to combine city, coast and wildlife in a shorter stay.
With 10 days, you add a full-day safari, a guided visit to the HESC conservation centre and a boat trip through the Blyde River Canyon. Those two extra days give you more time with the wildlife and a chance to admire the canyon from the water too.
What will I visit in Cape Town?
You will spend a day exploring the Cape Peninsula: Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope, the penguins at Boulders Beach and the views along Chapman’s Peak Drive. Another day takes you into the city, visiting places such as Company’s Garden and the colourful houses of Bo-Kaap.
A cable car ride up Table Mountain is also planned, so you can admire the city and coastline from above. This depends on the weather and the cable car operating; the order of visits may be adjusted.
How do I get from Cape Town to Kruger, and where does the itinerary end?
On day 4, you are scheduled to fly from Cape Town to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, whose code is MQP and which you may also see referred to as KMIA. We take you to the airport in Cape Town and meet you at MQP for your transfer to the lodge. The first afternoon safari is scheduled for that day, subject to your arrival time.
The tour ends with a transfer from Hazyview to MQP on day 8 or 10. International and domestic flights are booked separately. Before you buy them, we help you check that the timings work with the itinerary and your return connection.
What are the safaris like, and which animals can I see?
You will explore southern Kruger in open 4×4 vehicles, with professional guides specialising in wildlife and plants. The 8-day programme includes an afternoon safari and two full-day safaris; the 10-day programme adds a third full day. These outings start early and include a lunch break.
You will look for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo and big cats, among other animals. The guide adapts the route to wildlife movements and the day’s sightings. The animals live in the wild: every outing is different, and sightings of the Big Five cannot be guaranteed.
What does the Panorama Route add after the safari?
A day among sweeping viewpoints, waterfalls and rock formations brings a change of scenery to your trip. You will admire the Blyde River Canyon from Three Rondavels, discover the shapes carved by water at Bourke’s Luck Potholes and visit Lisbon and Berlin waterfalls.
The route also includes God’s Window, where the views depend on visibility. This full-day excursion, including lunch, is part of both programmes; the boat trip through the canyon is an additional experience included in the 10-day trip.
When is the best time to combine Cape Town and Kruger?
It depends on what you most want to enjoy. In Kruger, the dry season, from April to September, generally makes wildlife easier to spot: there is less vegetation and animals gather near water. Early mornings can be cold.
Cape Town generally has warm, dry days in summer, from December to February; winter, from June to August, is cooler and wetter. If your dates are flexible, tell us whether your priority is the safari, the coastal weather or a combination of both, and we will help you plan your trip.
Where will I stay, and which meals are included?
You will spend three nights in a hotel in Cape Town. You will then stay in 4-star lodges near Kruger and in Hazyview: four nights on the 8-day programme or six on the 10-day programme.
Breakfast is included every day, along with dinner during the lodge stays. Lunches on the full-day safaris and the Panorama Route are also included; the 10-day trip adds lunch on the excursion to HESC and the Blyde River Canyon.
Can we take the trip as two or three travellers?
Yes. If you are travelling as a couple or a group of three, we will prepare a quote for your group. The reference price is calculated for four travellers sharing double rooms, but you do not need to put together a group of four to take the trip.
With your dates, the number of travellers and your accommodation preferences, we will send you a proposal tailored to your trip.
Can we add days in Cape Town or finish at the beach?
Yes, we can arrange an extension so you can enjoy more time in Cape Town or round off your safari with a few days on the beach in Mozambique. These days are quoted separately from the 8- and 10-day programmes, depending on the stay, transfers and connections required.
Tell us how many days you have and how you would like to finish your holiday. We will help you design a tailor-made itinerary that fits your dates and flights.
